The story of Vita Luminis
When we are young we look ahead. As the years pass we glance rather more often in the mirror, and take a certain quiet pleasure in naming, one by one, the fine machines that have shared our life.
The legacy of the Biscione
Vita Luminis was born of a family story around the automobile: passing on memories in an artisan case worthy of the finest machines.
My father carried within him that sacred taste for machinery. An Alfa man from the very beginning, he passed on far more than an interest in cars; he taught me to love beautiful things — the ones with a soul and a temper.
By the time I was ten, like any self-respecting Italian, my heart beat to the exploits of the Cavallino Rampante. In the family garage the icons followed one another like chapters of a shared story: the pure line of a GT Junior, the temperament of an Alfetta, the charm of a Giulietta…
When the time finally came to make my own way, it felt natural, almost necessary, to buy my first Alfa Romeo. It was not merely a purchase; it was a silent tribute.

Les années ont filé, j'ai fondé un foyer, mais la flamme, elle, est restée intacte.
C'est le propre de la jeunesse que de ne regarder que l'horizon. Mais avec le temps, on finit par ajuster le « rétroviseur ». On se surprend à ralentir pour énumérer les mécaniques d'exception qui ont jalonné notre route.
J'ai voulu alors marquer le coup et offrir à mon père un cadeau à la mesure de notre passion commune : quelques cadres sublimant les voitures qui avaient marqué sa vie de conducteur.
Mais ma mère m'a brusquement ramené à la réalité et sa sentence fut irrévocable :
« C'est absolument superbe, mon chéri... mais je ne veux pas de ces cadres dans mon salon ! »
L'impasse.
Le bel hommage venait de se heurter au veto souverain de la décoration intérieure.

Puisque les murs du salon étaient une citadelle imprenable, il fallait inventer un autre refuge pour ces souvenirs. J'ai alors imaginé de réunir ces œuvres dans un objet précieux, un album conçu avec le même soin et la même solennité que ceux où nos parents conservaient autrefois leurs photos de mariage.
Je ne voulais pas d'un simple catalogue, mais d'un objet de transmission, un écrin que l'on feuillette avec émotion.
Pour transformer cette intuition en un projet concret, je suis allé à la rencontre d'amis, de collectionneurs et de fins connaisseurs. Cette alternative au cadre mural devenait soudain une ambition nouvelle : offrir à chaque voiture la place d'honneur qu'elle mérite dans le grand livre d'une vie.
Je ne voulais pas d'un simple catalogue, mais d'un objet de transmission, un écrin que l'on feuillette avec émotion.

la naissance de Vita Luminis
The result was beyond argument: the album has that rare physical presence — heavy, imposing, stately. Holding it in my hands, I felt we had captured the very essence of our passion.
Yet, looking at the finished work, one thing became obvious. This album was not to be a mausoleum but a living book. So I decided to write our story in the present tense as well, adding the cars I have the privilege of driving today.
I therefore conceived the volume with a new generosity, giving it far more pages than were needed. I deliberately left blank leaves, ready to receive my children's future passions.
That is how Vita Luminis came about: far more than an album, it is the book of the objects that have lit up our lives.
